Spring Lake Village Plans Emergency Evacuation Drill July 13

Santa Rosa, CA. – Spring Lake Village will hold practice evacuation drills on Tuesday, July 13 at the senior community in Santa Rosa as part of its Emergency Preparedness Week.

Residents and employees will be active participants in two drills, each testing the emergency alert system and implementing evacuation procedures. (See full schedule below.)

Spring Lake Village will host other events throughout the week that include speakers from the Santa Rosa Fire Department, Anandel State Park, community fire wardens and Spring Lake Village staff, providing information to elevate the community’s preparedness in case of an emergency.

During the 2020 Glass Fire, Spring Lake Village residents were directed to Sonoma County emergency shelters, only to be sent elsewhere. Since then, Spring Lake Village has worked with the City of Santa Rosa to create its own emergency evacuation site at A Place to Play. This will ensure that all residents are accounted for as quickly and easily as possible.

“Our residents’ safety is our first priority,” said Mary McMullin, Chief Advancement Officer for Front Porch, Spring Lake Village’s parent company. “Our ongoing preparation and this evacuation drill will provide our residents and their families with assurance in what to do should an emergency occur.”

Spring Lake Village and Friends House, another Front Porch senior community in Santa Rosa, have collaborated on emergency planning and preparations, including making their landscaping more fire resistant, testing a new emergency text alert system, and partnering with Webster House, a Front Porch community in Palo Alto, to provide emergency shelter for residents who need more support.

“We learned a lot from the 2020 evacuation,” said Michael Cataldo, Spring Lake Village Executive Director. “Although we don’t want to go through that again, I know all of us will be more ready if we do.”
