ONN – Star Wars Rise Of Skywalker An Epic Emasculation Of Finn As A Black Man

I wanted to love “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, but at the end of the epic near three-hour long movie, I could only sorta like it. The reason is that it took what was one of its two main characters, John Boyegas Finn , and reduced him from the daring would-be replacement for Han Solo, who gets the girl Daisey Ridley’s Rey, to what he is by the final movie: a friend to everyone who has a force connection with Rey, but at the end, never is allowed to close the deal.

Finn is black; Rey is white. In Star Wars Episode 7,8, and 9, Finn never once kisses Rey – on the cheek or the mouth. In fact, in 40 years of Star Wars movies we have never had one interracial black / white kiss, and especially not black male and white female. This at a time when it would seem that we were passed such racist issues.

Think about it. We get a same sex kiss between two minor characters and yet we don’t have Finn and Rey kiss. When I raised the issue on Twitter, you had unnamed people trying to emasculate Finn, then, and match him with Poe, played by Oscar Isaac. They wanted Rey to be with Kylo Ren, and echoed the Hollywood movie sites. Maybe they were one in the same?

I thought we moved past that when Captain Kirk kissed Lt. Uhura on Star Trek The Original Series, in 1967.

It’s 2019, folks.

It’s beyond sad that J.J. Abrams stepped in as director and producer, because we got a really watered down movie that was too fast paced and without the romance that was right for our times and would have reflected a society they overcame its racist past. Instead, we got a Star Wars movie that continues to reflect the racism of the times by letting us know it’s still with us.

Beyond sad.

Stay tuned.

Note from Oakland News Now Technical: this video-blog post shows the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
