Melissa Benoist posted an Instagram video about her recent problem as the victim of domestic violence. It was surprising, and out of the blue, and tearfully sad.
As a big fan of Melissa Benoist, and one who’s covered San Diego Comic Con (where she appears annually) for 10 years, I hope and pray she is able to overcome what she describes as a level of mental damage that she will spend a lifetime overcoming. What the man did was horrible: beating her face with an iPhone, slamming her into drywall, punching, and then the verbal abuse. Asking her not to do intimate scenes with other men. Getting jealous if she did a scene with another man, and so on.

And an outpouring of support has become so great, that as of right now, her name is trending on Twitter, and there’s a hashtag #IStandWithMelissa that has reached Twitter World Wide Trend Status.
In total, what this person did was such that he should be in jail – there’s no other way to describe it.
As I said in my vlog, men who are in relationships where they feel like they have to “control” their girlfriend or wife need to get out of the situation, and get help now. As one who loves strong women, I often get comments from men about how they “can’t control” that kind of woman. My response is that it’s not a contest, but a lovefest. But a man who feels like they have to have a woman they can physically dominate is one who needs to stop what they’re doing and change, before its too late.
Sadly, there are too many men who have that problem. That kind of man gets on social media and writes rants that are offensive toward me as a lover of strong women, and then also done under the color of a fake name. There are a lot of men and teenagers (I can tell your age) on YouTube who abuse the system with their behavior – I’m happy to block them.
We must stop violence against women. Period.
