The San Francisco Chronicle Endorses Buffy Wicks

Berkeley, CA. — Today The San Francisco Chronicle announced their endorsement of Buffy Wicks for the next Assemblymember in District 15. The Chronicle cited Buffy’s housing policies and ability to get things done as key reasons for their support.

“The depth of her knowledge and savvy in blending progressive goals with pragmatic solutions are the qualities that distinguish Wicks from her opponent, two-term Richmond City Councilwoman Jovanka Beckles,” stated the editorial.

“Wicks’ platform is more detailed and realistic in every regard. There is no doubt about which candidate would be more effective in the state Capitol: Buffy Wicks,” concluded the editorial.

The endorsement of the Chronicle builds upon the growing momentum for Buffy in the final stretch before the November 6th election. Former State Senator Loni Hancock and former Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates have also announced their support, and last week the Contra Costa Building Construction Trades Council flipped from being neutral to supporting Buffy.

Buffy also received the endorsements of The East Bay Express and The East Bay Times during the primary campaign.

Buffy held a barnstorm canvass over the weekend, talking to voters in all 12 cities of the District. The campaign hosted 6 house parties, participated in 3 community events, held 7 canvasses and knocked on over 6,500 doors over two days.

Other progressive leaders endorsing Buffy include President Barack Obama, United States Senator Kamala Harris, California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt, El Cerrito Mayor Gabriel Quinto, Albany Mayor Peggy McQuaid, Emeryville Mayor John Bauters, Hercules Mayor Chris Kelley, and many other elected and community leaders across the district. In addition, she is endorsed by the West Contra Costa County and Berkeley Democratic Clubs. Labor organizations supporting Buffy include the Building and Construction Trades Council of Alameda County, the Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Council, Northern California Carpenters Regional Council, LIUNA Laborers Local 324 and Local 304, Sheet Metal Workers Local 104, Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 342, Construction & General Laborers Local Union 304, Sprinkler Fitters & Apprentices Local 483, Heat & Frost Insulators, Allied Workers Local Union 16 and UFCW Local 5.
