Tiger Woods Wins 2019 Masters – Livestream Talk With Golf Writer Thomas Bonk
My friend Thomas Bonk is a legendary sports writer formerly with the LA Times, and who personally knows and has covered Tiger Woods since the Stanford grad was 17 years old.
In the wake of Woods’ amazing and dramatic 2019 Masters Golf Tournament win, I could not think of a better person to talk with about what America and the World witnessed than Tommy Bonk.
Thomas Bonk has covered not only the Masters, but professional golf for the LA Times and for Golf Digest, and professional basketball and the NBA, going back to the historic “Showtime” days of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Tommy Bonk is also known as the person who created the name for the 1983 Houston Cougars: “Phil Slama Jama.”
“Phil Slama Jama” is arguably the greatest nickname in sports history. He came up with the nickname after witnessing the Cougars destroy the University of Pacific 112-56. Under a deadline, he sat down and tried to take it what he saw. The NCAA has allowed the “slam dunk” at the time. So, according to a blog post by Chris Dufresne AKA “DufRankman”, Bonk tried to think of what a college dunking fraternity would be named: the result was “Phil Slama Jama”.
