I visited Torpedo Sushi Oakland again (and after two years) because I happened to walk by in search of a different eating experience, and remembered that Kimberly Kohn, who is with the non-profit Family Paths, insisted I meet there with her so I could vlog about it. “It’s a terrific place,” she remarked back then, but it’s too bad more people in Oakland don’t know about it.”

That remark haunted my memory once I walked by, and so I made a rapid turn into the eatery. Mission: to have something I’d never eaten before. That something was the Poke Bowl, or “The Classic.”

“The Classic” Poke Bowl, as it’s made at Torpedo Sushi, consists of Poke Tuna and salmon, and Surimi Crab. It’s a great and healthy and filling tasty order you must have at some point in your life. It’s that good. To me.

The owner of Torpedo Sushi is Lee Sanchex, who Kim described as a “very hands-on proprietor”. Kim likes “The Rainbow Roll.” Sounding like the late Anthony Bordain, Kim said The Rainbow Roll is “a little apple in there, fruity, sweet, spicy, combination.” I told Lee I’d be back, and said so in the vlog – but two years later? I should be flogged. That was two years two long. The food’s too good!

As you can see by what I had today:

Check out and eat at Torpedo Sushi in Uptown Oakland, on 25 Grand Avenue, near the corner of Grand and Broadway.

Oh, and Family Paths is a social service organization in Oakland, that is a group “of mental health professionals and dedicated volunteers that provide a number of mental health and supportive services to low income, multi-stressed individuals and families.” Visit the Family Paths website for more information: https://familypaths.org
