ONN – Trump Rep Ken Cuccinelli Called “Un American” By Jeffrey Toobin Of CNN
Ken Cuccinelli, the acting Director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, upset CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin for, as the CNN headline reports, “rewriting Statue of Liberty poem to make case for limiting immigration.”
“Would you also agree that Emma Lazarus’s words etched on the Statue of Liberty, ‘Give me your tired, give me your poor,’ are also a part of the American ethos?” NPR’s Rachel Martin asked Ken Cuccinelli on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition”. Ken, the former Virginia Attorney General, said “They certainly are: ‘Give me your tired and your poor who can stand on their own two feet and who will not become a public charge. That plaque was put on the Statue of Liberty at almost the same time as the first public charge was passed — very interesting timing.”
So, Ken Cuccinelli just said that America doesn’t want the poor immigrant unless that person can work without government aide. On CNN, Jeffrey Toobin reminded all of our nation’s history of providing government aide to new, poor immigrants, and called Cuccinelli’s words “un-American.”
Agreed.
President Trump is determined to use immigration as a wedge play to divide the nation and gin up the support of poor white working class voters. Divide and conquer is a terrible approach to governance that can only lead down a path toward authoritarian rule. Democracy is set aside for a system of near dictatorial control. We can’t have that in America.
This blogger has gone off script because what President Trump is trying to do is as depressing as it is divisive and racist and classist. Trump has damaged the American mood and depressed us all and just on the heels of the feel-good years of President Obama.
Stay tuned.
Oakland News Now Note: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest version of an experimental Zennie62Media mobile media video-blogging system network. This is a major part of our new approach to the production of news media. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and also seek interested content and media technology partners.
