Valentine’s Day Is A Commercial Holiday Invented By Hallmark Cards

Ok, so when was Valentine’s Day invented?

Seriously.

If I type “When was Valentine’s Day invented?” in Google, I get this:

496
The first Valentine’s Day was in the year 496! Having a particular Valentine’s Day is a very old tradition, thought to have originated from a Roman festival. The Romans had a festival called Lupercalia in the middle of February – officially the start of their springtime.

But a careful read shows the use of the term ” thought to have originated from”, which is another way of saying “We really don’t know at all.” Okay.

Then I see “What is Valentine’s Day and how did it start?”..

I get “It’s the day when people show their affection for another person or people by sending cards, flowers or chocolates with messages of love…The day gets its name from a famous saint, but there are several stories of who he was. The popular belief about St Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD.”

Wait. “The popular belief “? In other words, more statements of uncertainty.

Keep looking and all you get is madness and uncertainty. But one thing is certain: Valentines Day cards were invented to give a way to show one how much they loved their significant other. Hallmark founder J.C. Hall began selling Valentine’s Day postcards in 1910, and the first Valentine’s Day cards go back to the mid-1800s. Basically, the industry of greeting card making gave rise to the marking of Valentine’s Day, and as much as a need to have a reason to make the cards for sale. Pushing the existence of Valentine’s Day created a market for the cards, flowers, and candies that fly out of stores and to loved ones annually.

So, you can thank Hallmark for Valentine’s Day. Yes, it’s a simple answer, but I’m following Occam’s Razor here:

The simplest of competing theories be preferred to the more complex or that explanations of unknown phenomena be sought first in terms of known quantities.

Stay tuned.

Note from Zennie62Media’s Zennie62 YouTube and Oakland News Now Today Blog SF Bay Area: this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a vlogger with the Zennie62 on YouTube Partner Channel, then uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours. Now, news is reported with a smartphone: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
