Where YouTuber Jilchristina Vest writes:
I was born and raised in Chicago. I moved to the Bay in 1986 @ 18 yrs old. In 1995, after earning degrees in Black Studies, Women’s Studies, and Education from SFSU and USF, I began my search for a home in West Oakland – West Oakland with its rich history of African American success and activism and birthplace of the Black Panther Party.
Dreams come true. I bought my beautiful home, with the help of my community, and 2.5 years later it was restored to glory.
It is twenty years later and I have found a way to say thank you to Oakland, my community, and The Black Panther Party – all the reasons I am here.
So, in conjunction with the #SayHerName movement, in response to the continued violence and systematic oppression of BIPOC, and as a result of the chronic blindness towards and seeming invisibility of – Black Women, I decided to assemble a team and install a 2000 sqft mural…on my house. This public art installation will honor the rarely credited names and accomplishments of our warriors, a group of people whose only goal was to protect and better the lives of Black Americans, a public art piece that will honor the creators and the legacy of the more than 60 community programs, clinics, and schools that they built. The WOMEN of The Black Panther Party.
I feel like this offering is my destiny to give. It will bring honor to this house, honor to this community, and honor to these unsung heroes -an honor long overdue.
The first-ever public art installation honoring The Black Panther Party and the women that made it possible.
Join us for the unveiling of this historic community art piece paying tribute to the Women of The Black Panther Party. Pre-recorded interviews with Panthers, the homeowner and the artists, historic photos and footage, time-lapse of mural installation all that plus a live-streamed unveiling of the 2000sqft mural being painted on the side of a home in West Oakland, Ca, and video shout outs and thank yous.
Jilchristina Vest raised over $17,000 for this effort via her Kickstarter page. The livestream is active as of now, above.
Stay tuned. Thanks to Vicky Solomon for the tip!
Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNow.com : this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the video is “liked” by Zennie62 YouTube, then it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
