Why Sports Teams Leave Oakland: Pat Gallagher, Wilie Brown, Elihu Harris, And Andy Dolich Live July 14th 4 PM PST, Zennie62 on YouTube and OaklandNewsNowBlog.com and OaklandNewsOnline.com
This question “Why Oakland’s Losing Sports Teams” has gained a number of views from sports journalists, but no one has ever had the point of view of people who have been in the middle of sports and government negotiations in Oakland and San Francisco. Elihu is the two-term Mayor of Oakland who brought the Raiders back from L.A., and built the new Warriors Arena that saw the birth of Golden State’s dynasty. Pat is the legendary founder and head of Giants Enterprises and Senior Vice President, Business Operations of the San Francisco Giants then later Founder of the Emerald Bowl and on the board of The San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, and Mayor Brown laid the initial groundwork for the Super Bowl to come to The Bay Area when it was slated for 2003, then 2004, then lost for technical reasons. Prior to that, Mayor Brown paved the way for the San Francisco Giants to build the mostly privately-financed ballpark then called Pac Bell Park and now called Oracle Park, which became famous for Barry Bonds knocking homers into McCovey Cove and the Giants going to The World Series, and winning it in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
And after working as Mayor Harris’ Economic Advisor, where I re-established the 49ers / Raiders Pre-Season Game (working with Al LoCasale, who was Al Davis’ right hand man), the-Oakland City Administrator Robert Bobb assigned me to get the Super Bowl San Francisco lost in 1999. I established Oakland;s first and still only sports commission, and the Oakland Super Bowl Bid Committee that grew to 45 members. Out of 11 cities, Oakland emerged to be in a three-city competition against Miami and Jacksonville, with Jacksonville winning on the 3rd ballot. After that, I started Oakland’s first blog which is now a 100-blog network and the cornerstone of the Delaware Startup Media Tech Company Zennie62Media, Inc. Zennie62Media has covered the NFL Draft and NFL Owners Meetings for the last 18 years, including the Atlanta Spring Meeting for 2022.
The point is, we all have unique “beyond insider” points of view from which to tackle the question. For example, Mayor Brown, advocated for the Warriors Arena to be in San Francisco. SF Mayor Ed Lee did a fantastic job of making that happen. I’d like to know what Mayor Brown saw that made both he and Mayor Lee think that deal could happen and that Oakland would not put up a fight? In fact, I think that’s a good place to start our talk on Thursday.

Note from Zennie62Media and OaklandNewsNow.com : this video-blog post demonstrates the full and live operation of the latest updated version of an experimental Zennie62Media , Inc. mobile media video-blogging system network that was launched June 2018. This is a major part of Zennie62Media , Inc.’s new and innovative approach to the production of news media. What we call “The Third Wave of Media”. The uploaded video is from a YouTube channel. When the YouTube video search uploads a video from a search for Mayor of Oakland vlogs, it is automatically uploaded to and formatted automatically at the Oakland News Now site and Zennie62-created and owned social media pages. The overall objective here, on top of our is smartphone-enabled, real-time, on the scene reporting of news, interviews, observations, and happenings anywhere in the World and within seconds and not hours – is the use of the existing YouTube social graph on any subject in the World. Now, news is reported with a smartphone and also by promoting current content on YouTube: no heavy and expensive cameras or even a laptop are necessary, or having a camera crew to shoot what is already on YouTube. The secondary objective is faster, and very inexpensive media content news production and distribution. We have found there is a disconnect between post length and time to product and revenue generated. With this, the problem is far less, though by no means solved. Zennie62Media is constantly working to improve the system network coding and seeks interested content and media technology partners.
