http://www.yeswecanthevideo.com – “Yes We Can” is the 2008 musical / video tribute to then-Senator Barack Obama’s Obama for President Campaign, by Maria Muldaur working with and Joel Jaffe at Studio D Recording in Sausalito , CA, with the video created by Zennie Abraham. It’s not to be confused with “Yes We Can” by Will-I-Am. It uses images either created by Zennie Abraham or obtained from the online public domain.
The music video came to be, because Maria Muldaur was inspired by the Obama for President Campaign, and a mutual friend of mine brought together Maria and the legendary producer Joel Jaffe with me. Maria then came up with the idea of including Bonnie Raitt, and she agreed to help. This video was the result, along with the song by the same name.
Maria used the song as the title track of her new 2008 album called Yes We Can!. Maria described it as “protest music you can dance to”. She told the Santa Barbara Independent that now-President Barack Obama personally wrote her a handwritten letter conveying that Yes We Can! “‘perfectly fits the spirit of the campaign’ and that he would have it placed in rotation and played at rallies and speeches.
I am proud to have worked with Maria Muldaur and Joel Jaffe on a video and song that is as contemporary today as it was in 2008.
