Oakland, CA – If you watched Zendaya Coleman on the 2019 Emmys, then you know she burned up social media with her dress (@Zendaya on Twitter and @Zendaya on Instagram). But you may not have known that Zendaya visited an Oakland school a few days before the 2019 Emmys.
Oakland Unified School District’s Global Family Elementary School had a special day last Thursday as TV star and Oakland native, Zendaya Coleman visited students to hand out school supplies.
Zendaya Coleman And School Supply Company Yoobi Came To Oakland
The visit by the women who’s just called “Zendaya” was organized by school supply company, Yoobi. Yoobi gave every classroom a box of pens, markers, glue sticks, scissors and other classroom necessities. The day started with an assembly for most of the school and ended with Zendaya visiting a 5th grade class.

The Students Were Excited To Meet A Hollywood Star, Especially One From Oakland
Zendaya Coleman, whose mother taught at Fruitvale Elementary School, is a celebrated actor, singer and author. Ms. Coleman is a veteran of the Disney Channel, wrote a book called, Between U and Me: How to Rock Your Tween Years with Style and Confidence, starred in two Spiderman movies, and is now starring in the critically acclaimed HBO show, Euphoria. “I want to be, when I grow up, I want to be someone who’s kind, and I want to be someone who inspires and always gives back,” she told the students.

Ms. Coleman handed out supplies and sat with some of the kids and colored. And of course, there were autographs and lots of hugs to be given out. The group also honored a student named Angie for being a leader who cares about her community, and teacher, Ellen Hum for inspiring her students.
