Zennie Abraham Warned You: Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao’s The Modern Tracy Flick
Last year, on September 22 2022 in Oakland News Now Blog in “Google Trends “ post, I wrote that then Oakland City Councilmember Sheng Thao had become like “Tracy Flick”. I wrote:
Ms. Thao is running a campaign that’s not unlike that of the famous high school president campaigner Tracy Flick. Yep, that Tracy Flick. And this is a cautionary tale for The Council President that is Sheng Thao, and because the two words that can best describe her run for Mayor of Oakland are simply “power-hungry” and “mean”. Sheng is way too quick to make enemies of others (even me) and for the smallest of reasons, and then do nothing at all to mend fences. That’s a picture of the kind of person we will get as Mayor of Oakland, in my opinion. And if she does win, we’re doomed, and simply because she can’t at all unite Oakland to get on with the business of recovering from the Pandemic.And this reminder: “Tracy Flick” can just as easily be “Tom Flick” – this is not an indictment against Sheng as a woman in politics, so don’t even try with that crap. This is about the kind of person others who have scored long years in Oakland Politics have described Sheng as and that lead me to compare her to “Tracy Flick”. But, male or female, the dislike for that kind of elected official is very real.
Well, Sheng’s Mayor of Oakland now. She has three Oakland Public Ethics Commission cases, a lawsuit, and an irate former Chief of Staff in Renia Webb dropping copies of her texts messages with Sheng into the cyber lap of this blogger, a pissed off popular African American Chief of Police she fired during Black History Month, and for made-up reasons, three Black department heads she chased away, early calls for her resignation, and it’s just a month and a week into her term as Mayor of Oakland. Wow.
